Summary:
The purpose of this position is to assists in managing convenience centers and at the landfill in accordance with SCDHEC regulations; and ensures vehicles with solid waste are weighed upon entry and exit at landfill.
This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Essential Duties
- Keeps and maintains daily records of solid waste and recyclables coming into the landfill.
- Inputs data in spreadsheets and runs daily and monthly reports as needed.
- Corresponds with Corporations and Abbeville citizens as needed.
- Completes and sends reports to DHEC as required.
- Calls on past-due accounts and keeps accounts receivables up to date.
- Maintains on-call hours on nights and weekends when convenience centers are open to handle any problems that may occur.
- Operates automatic scale system to measure the weight of solid waste and other materials that will be disposed.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service to in-staff and the general public either by telephone, electronically, or face-to-face. Answers questions from residents, businesses and site operators.
- Direct incoming vehicles to dumping area.
- Issue weigh tickets to drivers and collect appropriate fee when applicable.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications
- High School graduate or GED equivalent.
- Some related solid waste or recycling experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- SCDHEC Landfill Operators Certification.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Physical Demands
- Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)
- Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
- Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
- Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
- Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
- Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
- Traffic; Moving machinery.
