Position Overview

Assistant to the Magistrate, the public and state and local law enforcement agencies in filing, disposition and receipt of fines for traffic and criminal cases while monitoring all receipts of cash and web serviced payments for accuracy.  Assists and directs the general public at the County law enforcement center when requesting assistance from the Magistrate Court, the Sheriff’s office or the Detention Center.

 

Essential Duties

  • Enter all traffic/criminal cases in CMS from local and state law enforcement agencies; Abbeville County Sheriff’s office, Highway Patrol, Transport Police and Dept. of Natural Resources
  • Receipts all traffic and criminal payments while monitoring cash drawer
  • Dispose traffic and criminal cases in web-based court management system, including issuance of bench warrants and traffic NRVC notices, monitoring cases until paid
  • Prepares and mails NRVC withdrawals weekly to DMV
  • Checks daily deposits of traffic/civil and criminal receipts against CMS records and prepares daily deposits for each account
  • Enters all web based on-line payments in CMS system and reconciles the monthly reports with CMS for accuracy

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate Degree in Business Administration, Office Technology or experience in banking or sales

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • C. Code Ann. §22-1-150 and S.C. Code Ann. §22-1-160 require that certain magistrates’ employees enter into bonds for the faithful performance and discharge of their duties
  • Successful completion of pre-employment credit, criminal and drug screenings

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards
  • Must have strong working knowledge of the internet, various word processing software skills as well as proper recordkeeping
  • Human relations – Courteously and respectfully manage stressful situation at the law enforcement center

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Security – Due to unpredictable outburst at the LEC, the entrance to the office must be locked at all times. The clerk monitors the security of the cash drawer and locks same during office hours and overnight
