This is library patron service and support work at the advanced level assisting the public with library access, the circulation and borrowing process, reference questions for library materials, and assisting in library material receipt and preparation.
Direct, assign and coordinate duties of other staff to ensure efficient operation of Circulation Services.

Part-time Library Assistant I. 12 hours a week – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 until 2:00. Location, Donalds Branch Library, 429 W. Main Street, Donalds.
Evening or Saturday hours as needed in Abbeville.
Essential Duties
- Welcomes and directs patrons entering the library to book locations and gathers desired materials; instructs patrons in the use of less complex reference tools; answers non-complex reference questions asked by patrons either over the telephone or in the library by use of standard reference materials.
- Registers library patrons by data entry of information into computerized integrated on-line circulation system.
- Explains routine circulation, overdue fines and fees, use of materials within the Library, and related policies and procedures to the public in person and over the telephone.
- Receives payment, performs routine cash handling using cash register and inputs payment information into computerized system.
- Shelves/retrieves materials, arranging and maintaining them for accessibility.
- Assists library patrons in accessing library services on computers and personal mobile devices, instructing and demonstrating use of library equipment and online resources as needed.
- Makes schedules for staff and volunteers working in circulation services. Ensures coverage for circulation desk.
- Collects program statistics and reports statistics and successes/problems to the Library Director.
- May assist in training new employees.
- Assembles seasonal displays.
- Assists in keeping Library System facilities clean and neat.
- Follows safe work methods to prevent injury.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications
High School graduation or GED equivalent.
Six (6) months of experience in a library or in general clerical work; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
