Library Circulation Coordinator
The purpose of this position is to coordinate the Circulation Unit of the Library. Ensures that the Unit is running properly with check-in and check-out of materials, and that staff are processing and shelving materials efficiently and effectively.
This position works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Essential Duties
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Assists library patrons in using library collections and resources.
- Monitors reserve book levels and disseminate material out to the public in a timely manner.
- Establishes and oversees proper customer service levels and resolves daily problems.
- Oversees the overdue and monetary collection functions for the library assigned.
- Prepares necessary unit reports and assists in formulating the annual budget and other administrative assignments.
- Serves as public relations officer of the unit in contacts with patrons and community organizations.
- Maintains the computer database and information system.
- Reports revenue, balances cash drawer, maintains cash box and make deposits.
- Assists with space allocation and workforce planning needs for the library system.
- Monitors the conditions of library materials that enter through circulation and determines appropriate repair action to be taken.
- Makes decisions on specific operating problems in accordance with departmental or institutional policies and precedents.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Library Science from a University or College accredited by the American Library Association preferred.
- Two (2) years of professional supervisory experience as a professional librarian; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Physical Demands
- Performs sedentary work that involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time: requires little or no dexterity. Requires occasional lifting of boxes and bins less than 50 lbs.
