Deputy Coroner

The Deputy Coroner is primarily responsible for the medico-legal death /fact finding investigation as to determining manner and cause of death within the jurisdiction of Abbeville County per South Carolina State Statute definitions. The Deputy Coroner is appointed at the discretion of the Coroner. The Deputy Coroner may do and perform any or all of the duties appertaining to the Office of the Coroner.
Qualifications:
Must be 21 years of age or older
High School diploma or general education degree (GED). College Degree (2 year, or 4-year degree) preferred but not required. A minimum of two (2) years of field experience as a Paramedic, EMT, Registered Nurse, Forensic Specialist, Pathology Specialist, Medical Laboratory Technician or Law Enforcement Officer.
Additional training preferred, but not required, includes Medicolegal Death Investigation Training, Pharmacology, Photography, Evidence Preservation, Arson Investigation, or any equivalent combination of training and experience to meet the qualifications of the position.
