Animal Control Officer

To enforce state and local laws regarding animals in Abbeville County.  To protect and insure the safe treatment of animals. To help ensure the safety of the public as related to animals (both wild and domestic).

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma (or equivalent) required.  Certification in Animal Control.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  Frequently required to stand, walk, use of hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance.  Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 bounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.  Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Must obtain certification in Animal Control within six months of employment.
