Job Title: Part‑Time Election Office Clerk

Department: Elections / Voter Registration
Reports To: Election Director

Location: Abbeville County Admin, Complex
Schedule: Flexible part‑time hours (approx. 25–30 hrs/week), with availability required during early voting and election cycles — including evenings and weekends.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Election Office Clerk supports election administration and voter registration processes. This role helps ensure smooth and professional operations that uphold the integrity of the democratic process.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Enter and update voter registration data (applications, changes, cancellations) and maintain accurate voter files.
  • Prepare, sort, and file forms, reports, and both incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Assist with early voting and Election Day preparations — including material setup, supplies organization, and supporting staff training.
  • Provide front‑line customer service: answer phones, assist walk‑ins, respond to inquiries, and accept campaign finance or absentee ballot forms as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience with clerical work, data entry, or customer service preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic computer functions and office software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and ability to handle confidential information professionally.
  • Attention to detail, organizational aptitude, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Typical office environment, involving prolonged periods of sitting or standing; lifting up to 30–50 lbs per schedule demands.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends during election periods.

Training & Certification

  • Completion of required election-related training or certification within specified period post-hire (e.g., within 18 months for SEC Training).
  • Ongoing training participation encouraged to stay current with election laws, procedures, and equipment.
