Part Time Animal Services Assistant

Summary:
The purpose of this position is to provide protection to the public from animals and enforce animal cruelty ordinances.
This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Essential Duties
- Completes animal intake and receiving procedures (including data entry) with the public, animal services officers, and law enforcement officers.
- Answers telephone calls, emails and electronic messages.
- Disseminates information and educational materials to the public.
- General cleaning and disinfection throughout the shelter facility.
- Assists prospective adopters with selection and counseling.
- Collects shelter fees and contributions from the public.
- Assists with animal socialization, enrichment, behavior/medical assessments, and vaccination of animals upon intake.
- Stocks, resupplies and organizes supplies and donated items.
- Relays information concerning animal related complaints or concerns from the public to the Animal Services Director and Animal Services Officers.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications
- Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
- Prefers experience working with domestic animals.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Physical Demands
- Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)
- May deal with potentially dangerous animals.
- Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
- Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
- Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
- Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
- Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
