POSITION OVERVIEW
• Under general supervision of the Deputy County Treasurer perform clerical duties in the collection of personal property taxes in the Treasurer’s office. Maintain and mark “paid” tax records. Performs related duties as required or assigned. Acts as Tax customer service providing tax information to tax payers. The mission of the Abbeville County Treasurer’s Office is to serve all citizens of Abbeville County in a professional and positive manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Ability to learn Treasurer tax payment/collection software.
• Handle large volumes of financial transactions (cash and checks).
• Balance cash drawer daily.
• Interpret tax information in tax accounting system (real estate and vehicle).
• Process, sort, and file County and State mailed tax payments/revenue received.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 2016 or higher (Word, Excel).
• Operate other office equipment.
• Communicate effectively with others in person and over the telephone. Interpersonal skills required.
• Analyze data, interpret directions, procedures and regulations, and develop appropriate responses.
• Attention to detail. Perform job duties under stressful conditions.
• Respond appropriately to situations.
• Maintain confidential information in accordance with legal standards and/or County regulations.
• Regular attendance is an essential function.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• None.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience:
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Bookkeeping experience preferred but not required.
Other requirements:
• Operation, responsibilities, and common procedures of a County Tax Office.
• SC Code of Law as applied to local tax collection and reporting requirements.
• Office management methods, equipment and practices.
• Basic mathematics functions.
• Property parcel descriptions and terminology.
• Successful completion of pre-employment background checks, drug testing and employee bonding.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
• Knowledge of MSOffice 2016(Word, Excel), Adobe Acrobat.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel 2016.
• Computer skills. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Problem solving skills. Ability to work with all levels of Abbeville County Council and Department management.
• Excellent computer skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
• Proficiency with email.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee
encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed within a small
office setting and must maintain harmony and encourage good working relationships with all
coworkers and other County entities. Must occasionally lift books or boxes of paper weighing up to
20 pounds and occasionally lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance.
