The Animal Services Department is a division of Abbeville County government. Our mission is to help
protect public health and safety from dangerous and nuisance animals, educate the public about responsible
pet ownership, enforce local laws pertaining to the care and treatment of animals, and promote the adoption
of homeless, rescued or neglected animals into a safe and responsible environment.
The animal shelter is open to the public from 10:00am to 5:00pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and
10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday for adoptions only.
Applicants should possess a minimum high school diploma or the equivalent of a 12th grade education.
Prior experience working with domesticated animals in a veterinary hospital or animal care & control facility
is preferred, or any combination of prior training and experience in a related field.

SKILLS SHOULD INCLUDE:
● Strong computer skills including data entry, word processing, office technology
● Interpersonal and communication skills
● Basic knowledge and identification of various animal breeds and identifications
● Ability to multi-task, prioritize, strong work ethic.
● Ability to meet and interact tactfully and effectively with the public
● Basic animal handling skills and comfort working with domestic animals.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:
● Completing animal intake and receiving procedures (including data entry) with the public, animal
services officers, and law enforcement officers.
● Providing customer service to members of the public, visitors, and volunteers.
● Answering telephone calls, emails and electronic messages.
● Disseminating information and educational materials to the public.
● Regular updates to animal profiles and memorandums in the PetPoint shelter software system.
● Some general cleaning and disinfection throughout the shelter facility.
● Maintaining a clean and organized intake lobby and office.
● Assisting prospective adopters with selection and counseling
● Inter-agency communication with other shelters and animal rescue groups.
● Collection of shelter fees and contributions from the public.
● Assisting with animal socialization, enrichment, and behavior/medical assessments.
● Stocking, resupply, and organization of supplies and donated items.
● Relaying information concerning animal related complaints or concerns from the public to the
Animal Services Director and Animal Services Officers.
